Justine welcomes Merton Council decision not to move Wimbledon Park athletics track

Merton Council has confirmed that it will not be moving the athletics track in Wimbledon Park as part of its masterplan proposals.

Merton Council ran a consultation on its 3 initial masterplan proposals and many local residents, as well as myself and the Southfields ward councillors made representations. This feedback has now been assessed and Merton Council has confirmed that it plans to develop Masterplan Option 1 to produce its final masterplan. Option 1 represented the least change to the park and means that the athletics track will not be moved from its current location. Merton Council are aiming to produce the final masterplan by the end of January 2017 with a view to publishing it in February 2017.

Justine said, ‘It really is great news that Merton Council has listened to the views of hundreds of local residents who made it very clear that they did not want the athletics track moved. I wanted to thank those residents who contacted me, and responded to the consultation directly, as it really has made a difference. I look forward to seeing the final masterplan when it is published in February’.
