Southfields is a fantastic community with a great village feel, visited by thousands of people each year for the Wimbledon Tennis championships. Local residents are always getting in touch with me with great ideas to improve the area. Last year, Wandsworth Council undertook a survey to see what aspects of Southfields residents would most like to see improved, and this information is now being analysed so that more formal proposals can be put forward and consulted on. These improvements will be funded by the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), which is a charge paid by developers when carrying out developments in local areas. I will let you know when these proposals are published to make sure our community really has their say on shaping this investment in Southfields.
There have been some local concerns in Southfields with the Wimbledon Park Road shopping parade under threat of over-development and I have written to Historic England in support of Southfields Business Forum's application to Historic England to list the parade. I also worked with residents to ensure Merton Council’s unpopular proposals to move the athletics track in its ‘Wimbledon Park masterplan’ were not taken forward. I have been working with local residents, councillors and community groups on these issues, and you can see all the updates on these issues under the ‘Local News’ section of my website.
